The Breakthrough for Beard Oil Vs Beard Wax That Will Blow Your Mind

The Breakthrough for Beard Oil Vs Beard Wax That Will Blow Your Mind

Sometime back I shared my recipe for a mustache wax. Also, I have shared recipes for various beard balms and oils.

All the products work for both beards and mustaches. Moreover, all 3 of them have the same use case – taming facial hair.

The wax and balm look similar. Also, they serve the purpose of styling and conditioning the facial hair.

It is the beard oil that looks different from the other 2. That is why a lot of men feel confused about using oils, balms, and waxes.

If you wish to know the differences between your facial grooming products. Then, read further.

Since the beard waxes and balms look similar. Thus, for the ease of their comparison with beard oil. I am clubbing them together. I will tackle the difference between wax and balm a little later in this post. But first the difference between oils and waxes/balms.

But if you wish to skim through the individual content topics. Then, please make use of the jump links below:

The Breakthrough for Beard Oil Vs Beard Wax That Will Blow Your Mind

Reasons That Will Make You Compare Beard Oil Vs Beard Wax

If you are a beardy hunk. Then, I am sure you must be using beard oil or wax, or both.

Both the products enhance the beard. But both have a few differences.

Those differences are:

1.     Beard Oil consists of a carrier oil base along with essential oils and herbs. While carrier and essential oils are common with waxes/balms too. But in addition, they also have heavy fats and/or esters from fatty acids.

2.     Beard oil penetrates the skin cells and vitalizes hair growth. Although, waxes and balms do contain oils. But due to their heavy structure, it is difficult for the oils to penetrate the skin cells.

3.     Beard oil is not efficient for styling facial hair. Though the waxes and balms style and or protect the beards and mustaches.

4.     Because of the presence of oils, beard oil remains in a state of liquid at all temperatures. An exception is in the case of few beard oils that turn solid at low temperatures due to the presence of coconut oil.

But the beard balms and waxes stay solid most of the time.

5.     The usage of beard oil leaves a greasy feel that lingers on for a while. That oily feel is absent in the case of waxes and balms.

beard oil vs beard wax ~ beard wax
Check Out this Beard Wax

As you can make out, oils help in nourishing the hair follicles. While the waxes and balms help style, condition and tame the unruly facial hair.

Even though the basic ingredients are similar in all the 3 products. It is the beard oil that will help with itchiness and uneven beard issues.

That means a beard oil is mandatory for optimum facial hair grooming. While the waxes and balms are nice, but not essential for everyone.

Though, cavemen beards and full-blown mustaches do require beard/mustache waxes/balms.

That brings the next topic of discussion:

Beard/Mustache Wax or Beard/Mustache Balm

beard oil vs beard wax ~ beard balm
Know More

Before I get on to the differences. Let me tackle the common pointers between the balms and waxes.

Carrier oil acts as a base to form both the waxes and balms. Coconut and Jojoba oils are popular carrier oils to form these products.

Coconut oil turns solid above 76 degrees F (24 degrees C). Thus, the end product stays stable and convenient for usage.

Although Jojoba oil is popular as an oil. But its structure is that of a weak wax. That is why much like coconut oil, Jojoba is common in both waxes and balms.

If you give a close inspection of the other ingredients in waxes/balms. Then, you will understand the subtle differences between the products.

Most of their differences are as below:

1.     As their name suggests, Waxes contain the wax as a substantial ingredient. Beeswax is the most popular choice for a stronghold beard wax recipe. While Carnauba wax and Dink gum are popular in vegan beard balm recipe.

In balms, dense butter extracted from nuts is the star ingredient. Shea, cocoa and kokum butter are the popular choices for making balms for facial hair.

2.     If you face dry facial hair issues. Then, a beard balm is your go-to product. The presence of heavy butter tackles dryness minus the sticky effect of beard oils.

But the waxes can further add to your dryness woes. The waxes contain a small amount of alcohol in them. That alcohol has a drying effect. Thus, after consistent use of heavy facial hair waxes. You can see issues of dry hair and facial skin popping up.

So, to keep the facial hair and skin supple and conditioned. You must use a beard balm instead of wax. For best results, you can use beard oil before using a balm.

3.     If you are a mustache/beard styling aficionado. Then, you need to tame the hair in a particular way to maintain your style. For instance, the handlebar mustache loses its panache if the mustache ends droop. To maintain the facial hair styling solidarity waxes help. Waxes hold the facial hair with a grip, thereby maintaining the style. Also, waxes create a barrier that protects the hair from external moisture. Thus, if you live in humid environments, then mustache/ beard wax is a must.

For a superior hold. Waxes must come in direct contact with the hair. So, you should avoid using beard oil before using waxes. Do not worry about missing out on drinking your favorite lager beer. You have the option of using a mustache guard before your lips touch that beer.

Due to the absence of waxes, facial hair balms cannot provide a stronghold. Thus, they are not as useful as a core styling product.

In Conclusion

In recent times, there is a surge in the popularity of sporting facial hair. Of course, that brings in an influx of male facial hair grooming products.

A wide range of products brings in a lot of options to choose from. But at the same time, they do bring in confusion regarding their usage.

This article digs deep into that problem and presents a solution.

If you have concerns putting beard oil or balm first. Or you want to know what product among oils/ waxes/ balms enhances the facial hair quality. Then, this article is for you.

Let me know if you have concerns about any other facial hair grooming products. I would love to analyze them as well.

Know How to Have a Remarkable Uneven Beard Growth Solution

Know How to Have a Remarkable Uneven Beard Growth Solution
Know How to Have a Remarkable Uneven Beard Growth Solution
Know How to Have a Remarkable Uneven Beard Growth Solution

I get tons of questions on beard grooming on my Quora profile. The topmost question that I receive often is for revealing an uneven beard growth solution.

It must be painful for the person asking the question. But I get perplexed reading such queries because I am not a male. I do not understand what makes people think that I would be the best person to answer that question. I have never sported a beard, nor can I ever do it. Though, it could be my top rankings on Quora that give people hopes about me being the right person to guide them. I doubt if those people consult a trichologist before asking me those questions.

But whatever be the reason, I thought of not letting down those who put their trust in me. So, I came up with this article to provide my best knowledge on this topic.

You can read this article in a quick mode by using the following jump links:

Understanding What Causes Bald Spots in Beards

Before you panic on a patchy beard. I urge you to examine your scalp. I am sure you would find a few problem zones on your hair as well.

In a typical scenario, the center of the head and the front of the scalp have scanty hair growth. This serendipity will make you come to terms with your beard bald spots.

The hair does not grow at an even rate on any part of our bodies. Rather, it has a sporadic growth pattern. Thus, it is common to have an uneven rate of beard growth.

Therefore, a patchy beard growth should not give you any sleepless nights. But if there is a frequent spurting of bald patches in your beard. Then, it is time to ring the warning bell.

Few of the patchy beard causes one could look into are:

     1.     Hormone Issues

Most of us think that hormonal irregularities belong to the feminine domain. But the fact is that hormonal issues lead to uneven beard and patchy moustache issues in men as well.

You will not get to know if you are suffering from an abnormal hormone play unless you go to a doctor. But the symptoms that could help you guess a hormonal abnormality could include:

  • sudden increase/decrease in sex drive
  • restlessness or sudden lack of vigor
  • sleeplessness
  • excessive hair fall
  • sudden weight gain/ loss

If you face any of these irregularities, you can check with your doctor for a solution.

     2.     Follicle Issues

Many times the follicles do not get to come past the surface of the skin. Either they are too thin to reach past the skin cells. Or at times the follicles face a blockage on the surface of the skin.

The blockages could be dead skin, product buildup, or the blackheads.

     3.     Improper Nutrition

This is a common reason for all hair growth issues. A diet lacking in proteins, b-complex vitamins, zinc, and iron will lead to uneven beard growth.

Moreover, smoking and excessive alcohol intake will impair nutrient absorption. Thus, causing prolonged hair growth issues.

     4.     The Adverse effect of Topical Cosmetics

At times we do not realize how the cosmetics end up hampering our bodies. Most of the cosmetics and toiletries have ingredients that may harm the skin. Some of these are – SLS, mineral oil, parabens, and artificial colors and fragrances.

These ingredients can create mild allergies. Though in some cases lead to hormonal disruptions and cancer as well.

That is why it does not come as a surprise that they may disrupt the hair growth patterns too.

So, it is advisable to avoid the products ones that have these chemicals.  Most of the face washes, creams, and gels include these.

You can switch to organic products that lack these gruesome ingredients. Or you could also make your own cosmetics.

     5.     Underlying Medical Issues

The human body is unpredictable. At times there are certain abnormalities in the body which may take years to show symptoms.

In such a scenario it gets difficult to detect the issue. For instance, certain cancers and tumors may remain malignant for years. But one may never get to know about them till the disease reaches its final stages. In such situations, hair fall remains one of the probable hints of these diseases.

That is why one must get a regular checkup with their doctors. These check-ups could lead to early detection of the diseases. Plus, the treatment of the disease could also take care of the hair fall issues.

Uneven Beard Growth Solution

Once you know what is the cause of your sudden bald patches in the beard. Then, moving to a solution is much easier.

In the case of medical issues, your trusted doctor can give you the best solution.

But if all your medical tests come out fine. Then, there is no need to worry. The situation can ease with a combination of lifestyle changes and natural remedies.

Few of them are as follows:

Beard Hair Loss Home Remedies

With time I have come up with a few household remedies for dealing with beard hair loss. They may not work for everyone. But they are worth trying since they do not bring any probable side-effects. They are as follows:

     1.     Beard Growth Serum

Sulphur-rich foods are an effective remedy for hair loss issues. Onions and Garlic are rich in this element. Thus, they make a wonderful beard growth serum when mixed with aloe vera.

The recipe is:

Mix about 1 tbsp each of onion and garlic juice with about 20 ml of aloe vera pulp/ gel.

If in case you notice a sudden bald spot in the beard. Then, you can apply this serum daily. For sure you will notice a difference.

I use fresh aloe vera to make a serum. But if you do not grow the plant, you can use a premade gel. But be sure to use the one that is pure, and has no parabens. Not every product in the market is worth trusting. The one below in the picture is a good one.

uneven beard growth solution ~ aloe vera gel
Know More about this Pure Aloe Gel

     2.     Potent Beard Oil

I am a strong believer in the magical properties of Castor oil. That is why I cannot stop recommending it enough in all my home remedies.

You can use it as a wonderful uneven beard growth solution by mixing it with some pumpkin seed oil. A 50:50 ratio of both when used daily can trigger the dormant hair follicles on the chin and mustache.

Furthermore, the cleansing power of castor oil clears the pores on the skin. This promotes follicle growth and also clears the damages due to overuse of cosmetics.

While the pumpkin seed oil is a DHT blocker. DHT is the culprit for causing hair fall in men. Moreover, the pumpkin seed oil decreases the viscosity of castor oil. Thus, making it easier for the castor oil to smear over the beard and mustache area.

My favorite castor and pumpkin seed oils are these. I cannot live without these:

uneven beard growth solution ~ castor oil
Hexane Free Castor Oil
uneven beard growth solution ~ pumpkin seed oil
DHT Blocking Pumpkin Seed Oil

     3.     Healthy Lifestyle

This is a no-brainer. But still, so many of us do not adhere to the principles of a healthy lifestyle.

Oxidation is one of the reasons for thinning and greying of beard hair. So, are smoking and excessive drinking.

To deal with this issue, you should eat nutritious food and include exercises in your routine.

Proteins, zinc, b-complex vitamins and iron are essential for hair growth. Thus, your diet should include foods rich in these nutrients. Broccoli, green leafy vegetables, eggs, and nuts are good sources of these elements.

Physical exercise for even 10 minutes a day can do a lot for your overall well being. The benefits lead to healthy beard health as well. Since exercise rejuvenates the body and mind. It has a positive impact. My favorites remain squats, stomach crunches and planks. They are easy to accommodate a busy lifestyle and they flex most of the muscles in the body.

Conclusion

Sporting a beard is a trend these days. But it is not easy to maintain optimum beard growth. Most of my bearded friends complain of itchiness, greying and uneven hair growth.

Since I am a big proponent of alternative therapies. Therefore, I am a big believer in the natural remedies for a patchy beard. Solutions from nature are effective and do not bring any major side-effects. At most, they may cause an allergic reaction. They do not cause hormonal disruptions or diseases like cancers.

The uneven beard growth solution in these articles is simple, yet effective. Plus, they do not cost much. Anyone can give them a try to improve their beard health. But you need to be consistent with daily applications for the positive results to appear.

Do let me know when you see a solution to your beard hair issues.

How to Make a Grey Beard Treatment for Amazing Results

Grey Beard Treatment for Amazing Results
Grey Beard Treatment for Amazing Results; Image Courtesy:  Shaiwaz Qadeer

I got to admit that I love to see a streak of white in the beard. A few strands of grey in the beard compliment a well-built personality.

My adulation for silver strands in beard surprises many. That is because many people consider white beard a significance of old age.

I am not sure about that analogy. Rather for me, the silver beard indicates a sign of maturity from a man.

Though through personal experience I claim that men can never mature. I can write several books purporting that claim. But for the purpose of not diverting away from this blog post topic. I will stick to removing gray from the beard.

Having a grey beard at 40 is normal. But if you have a grey beard at 25, then you need to read further.

Reasons for White Hair in Beard at an Early Age

There could be plenty of reasons for the premature greying of hair. But the basic science behind it involves the insufficient production of melanin.

Melanin is a pigment that imparts the color to skin and hair. A few major factors contributing to the production issues of melanin include:

1.     Genetics

Whether you like it or not. Your destiny plays a major role in your physical appearance. So, if your parent(s) have had premature greying. Then, it is likely for you to have the same fate.

But do not feel despondent seeing the silver beard on your pedigree. You can delay the premature greying by controlling the other factors listed below.

2.     Improper Diet

Hydrogen peroxide in the body obstructs melanin production. Catalase, an enzyme works as an antagonist to hydrogen peroxide. Catalase prevents oxidation of cells, thereby preserving melanin reserves.

So, if your diet lacks catalase. Then for sure, it will affect your skin and body color. Therefore, the solution lies in increasing the intake of foods rich in Catalase.

Green leafy vegetables and wheatgrass are a good source of this enzyme. Broccoli, zucchini, and radishes also have significant amounts of Catalase.

Apart from food, water also has an impact on melanin reserves. Potable water, as well as water for topical applications, affects our bodies. So, any contamination or additives in water can become a cause of concern.

The solution for the same lies in identifying the total dissolved solids in water. Then, using a suitable filtration process to get rid of contaminants.

3.     External Factors

Going outdoors in the Sun tans the skin. In a similar way, the Sun affects the hair too.

But unlike the skin, Sun lightens the hair color. The extended exposure to scorching Sun decreases the melanin content in hair.

To prevent the damage to melanin from Sun. You need to protect your hair from the harmful rays of the Sun.

If avoiding outdoors is not an option. Then, try to cover up with a cotton cloth or a hat.

4.     Stress

It is not surprising to know that stress is evil. It not only leads to hair fall. But it also leads to premature greying of hair.

There is no solution to ceasing the source of stress in one’s life. But you can try bouncing off the stress from your life.

Meditation and having a reliable human network around you help de-stress.

Investing in a disciplined physical regime and a creative hobby is good too.

5.     Use of products that are heavy on harmful chemicals

Excessive usage of commercial cosmetics may bring adverse effect. Most of them have ingredients like mineral oil, synthetic colors, and fragrances. These can bring about discoloration of hair.

Also, some fairness products contain bleach that can lighten the hair color. So, to lessen the harm of these products on your beard and mustache hair. The best solution is to use these products on a minimal basis.

3 Hacks for Grey Beard Treatment

If you work on the factors that cause discoloration of facial hair. Then, it is probable to arrest the natural hair color. But at times in spite of what precautions you take. You still can suffer from an early onset of grey hair.

It is not much you can do to reverse grey beard. But if you try some homemade remedies. Then, you can prevent the overall white beard scenario.

1.     Grey Beard Reversing Oil

Oils are wonderful to nourish hair follicles. Some of them work to arrest the hair color as well.

Although I am a Castor Oil devotee. But for a grey beard treatment, I recommend Mustard Oil.

From my personal experience, I claim that mustard oil prevents hair discoloration. This is an extra bonus from it, apart from getting strong and nourished hair.

For an enhanced grey beard treatment, adding a few drops of clary sage oil does wonder. You can mix 10 drops of clary sage essential oil to a mix of 50 ml each of mustard and grape seed oils.

Regular use of this oil may not turn the white hair to black. But for sure it will secure the natural color of the beard hair that is not yet white.

2.     Grey Beard Treatment Serum

I am a big fan of hair serums. They nourish the hair roots as well as condition the hair’s exterior.

I come up with concoctions for my hair. Taking a cue from them, I came up with a recipe for the beard as well. It is as follows:

2.1 Wash and collect the following – a medium sized onion, curry leaves, rosemary leaves, hibiscus flower

and leaves, mint leaves, potato peels, and a few Indian gooseberries.

2.2 Boil all these ingredients in about a cup of water.

2.3 Remove from boiling once the decoction reduces to about half the initial quantity.

2.4 Once the boiled mixture cools. You can then use it as a beard serum.

2.5 A spray bottle serves the purpose of using this serum best. Though you can use it with your bare hands

as well.

Please note that you can use the ingredients in a dried form too. They are in the resources section at the bottom of this article.

3.     Beard Darkening Pack

If none of the above mentioned grey beard treatment work. Or if you cringe at the sight of a grey beard at 30 years of age. Then, there is nothing much you can do except coloring.

There are various options available for coloring hair. But if you want a natural route towards beard coloring. Then, you can use natural hair color to darken your beard. Indigo leaves are good for this purpose.

Indigo leaves are free from Ammonia. Thus, they do not cause any harm to the skin.

The abundance of white hair in beard brings in anxiety to many. Moreover, it gets worse if you find beard turning white in patches. In such a situation one could look for a reliable grey beard treatment.

How to Make Mustache Attractive With Easy Tips

tips for mustache growth ~ handmadeselling.com
3 Tips for Mustache Growth

In the Victorian era, mustache grooming was an indulgence. Men cared for the facial hair that was in and around their columella nasi. Oiling, cleansing, conditioning, and styling was the norm. They even colored, highlighted and rolled their mustaches.

Wait. It did not stop there.

Men with long mustaches drank from special teacups. Those cups had an inbuilt barrier that acted as a guard. The guard prevented the contents of the cup from touching the well-kept mustaches.

How luxurious that sounds.

On the other hand, I know many men who struggle to grow a mustache.

My Quora feed has numerous questions related to tips for mustache growth.

Although I got a few hair on my upper lip. I am not interested in growing them further.

But I can share a few tips and tricks on how to grow a mustache thicker. If you are a man and growing thick mustache interests you. Then, you can read further.

3 Tips for Mustache Growth

     1.     Castor Oil for Mustache Growth and Nourishment

If this is not your first visit to my blog. Then you must be aware of my love for castor oil.

I cannot do without this magic oil. It is a boon for the skin and hair. Its application on the skin beneath the mustache triggers hair growth.

If you are religious about applying castor oil daily on your beard. Then, you will see the growth of new hair follicles.

The oil is viscous. So, its application is a little tricky. But it absorbs well into the skin.

With its regular use, you will notice a bushy mustache with a healthy skin underneath it.

Castor oil is antimicrobial in nature. Thus, it keeps the mustache area free from infections. Apart from incorporating it into your everyday grooming regime. You can also use this oil as an aftershave/ trimming lotion.

In case you are suffering from male hormonal disbalance. Then, you can mix a little grapeseed oil with castor oil.

Grapeseed oil has DHT inhibiting properties. DHT, as you know is the hair growth inhibiting hormone. So, with the use of grapeseed oil, DHT faces resistance, thus leading to better mustache health.

You can mix both the oils in equal proportions to make a potent mustache thickener.

     2.     Mild, but Thorough Cleansing

You may never get to know, but a lot of bacteria resides in facial hair. The dense mustaches are more susceptible to grit, dirt, and dust. Thus, the more the probability of catching an infection.

Germs if not washed off, may lead to complications. Apart from a poor mustache growth. An unchecked mustache infection can lead to the damaged skin as well.

So, a thorough cleansing ritual for the mustache is a must. That includes twice in a day mild cleansing. Plus, a scrubbing ritual per week.

For cleansing, you can try washing your face with castile soap. Castile soap is a mild cleanser made from pure oils. You must avoid the cleansers that have parabens and sulfates. Both these elements are not so good chemicals for the skin. Furthermore, they are harmful to the environment as well.

You can work up a small amount of castor soap on your mustache area. A little of this soap creates enough suds to wash off dirt and grime. Make sure to reach the skin underneath the mustache well.

For scrubbing, you can make a paste by adding sugar to grapeseed oil. Sugar acts as a sturdy scrub. While the oil acts as an emollient.

Work up as a scrub on the mustache region or about 5 minutes. Then, wash it off with plain water.

You will see a visible difference after using the scrub. In fact, the results will be evident after the first use itself.

This nonfancy scrub is simple to prepare and stands high on results. But if you need some processed cleansers and scrubs. Then, you can check out the resources section.

     3.     Protection

Exposure to the Sun and pollution damages the hair. Thus, your mustache requires a protective guard.

While driving a two-wheeler, you can wear a helmet. The helmet will create a barrier between your mustache and the foreign particles in the air. Plus, a helmet will protect your head from damages in case of an accident too.

A helmet is good while driving. You can also protect your mustache by using a serum.

For preparing a serum, you can use organic apple cider vinegar and green tea.

Mix the vinegar with brewed tea in equal proportions to get a protecting serum. This serum forms a protective layer on the mustache and the skin beneath it.

Acids in vinegar inhibit the growth of infection-causing bacteria. While the green tea refreshes and acts as a mild sunscreen. It also prevents itch in facial hair.

You can put this liquid in a spray bottle. Or you can also apply the liquid with the help of a cotton ball on your mustache.

There are a few store-bought options for a protecting serum in the resources section of this article.

How to Make a Fantastic Firm Mustache Wax Recipe
How to Make a Fantastic Firm Mustache Wax Recipe

Ever had a fancy of having a firm mustache? The ones that hunks in advertisements endorse. Or the ones that defense veterans are proud of.

Well, if you are one of the kinds of guys I go around with. Then, you might.

By the way, you are reading this article. So, I am sure you do fancy a crisp mustache. Be it the handlebar one like my favorite hirsute hunk Anil Kapoor. Or be it the one as my crush from the SEO domain Rand Fishkin.

Men like to keep a firm game. And when it comes to a mustache. They are all the more firm about keeping it firm.

So, what are the options to have it that way? I mean for the mustache.

I know about the options available in the form of beard and mustache waxes. These days I also find mustache and wax sticks.

I had a look at the ingredients present in them. Most of them contain beeswax and/or shea butter.

I include these products in my beard balm recipe.

I have done a substantial amount of research from my beardy buddies.

That data tells me that products that contain these natural waxes are not good enough for a stronghold.

For superior hold, a stronger beard/ mustache product is essential.

Then, you must be itching to ask……..

So “Can I Use Hair Gel on My Mustache”

Whenever I tell my bearded buddies that the ingredients in their mustache wax are not enough. They end up asking me the obvious question. That what if they can substitute their hair gel on their facial hair.

To that my answer is a complete and a big NO.

Most of the stronghold hair gels include a lot of synthetic ingredients. The major ones include – paraffin, pine tar, artificial silicones, and resins.

Though they might give a stronghold for a short interval. But that will harm your hair cuticles. Moreover, it will give a horrible cling to your hair.

After its usage, you will struggle with how to get wax out of hair.

Trust me, it is not an easy task to remove the commercial stronghold products out of your hair.

You can ask your friends from the Sikh community for some trivia. Most of them suffer at the cost of stronghold beard gels.

Those gels harm the hair follicles and also turn the hair weak with each usage.

So, the next and obvious question you might ask is…….

Then, how does one create a natural mustache wax recipe?

If you know me a little. Then, you know what my answer is.

Yes, it is going to the nature to look for a solution.

That is how I come up with natural ingredients for mustache wax alternatives.

Plastic-based ingredients may give stiffness to the hair. But they are not in the best interests of our health. Whereas, there are a lot of ingredients in nature that can give similar benefits minus the havoc.

These include gums, waxes, and resins extracted from nature. The popular choices for the same are gums and waxes.

1.     Dink Gum

Ever had those gond ladoos when you were a kid? I had a lot of those at my maternal grand mother’s place.

The star ingredient in those sweets is an edible gum. It is a resin extraction from the axlewood tree. It is popular as Dink gum.

Because of its high viscosity, it renders a glue-like consistency. Also, its stickiness stays true even in humid conditions. Thus, it makes an excellent ingredient for a stiff mustache wax recipe.

2.     Carnauba Wax

You must have seen this ingredient in your car shine wax. Yes, it is the same wax that polishes your automobile. Thus making it look as good as new.

For guys, automobile and their mustache carry a sentiment of pride. Thus, carnauba wax works best for illuminating both.

Carnauba wax comes from Brazilian palm trees. It adds shine and hold to a surface. It finds applications in the food industry as well. Confectioners use it to add a sheen to chocolates, marzipans and baked products.

So, I use it to make a firm mustache wax recipe.

3.     Beeswax

I am not going to discuss this one much. As most of my hair and skin care products contain this one.

This is the natural wax found in the beehives. It provides conditioning benefits. And it also provides a structure to the surface they get in touch with. Hence, a good addition to a hair wax for the mustache.

Though if you prefer a vegan firm mustache wax recipe. Then, you can make your DIY mustache wax without beeswax.

4.     Jojoba Oil

Jojoba accompanies a suffix “oil”. But on technical terms, it is an ester of long chain fatty acids.

So, it acts as a wax. Moreover, it is stable at high temperatures and has a pretty nice shelf life.

Till now I have not mentioned its goodness in skin care. Because there are way too many.

It has an even spread on an application. Also, it is a wonderful emollient.

I use it on my skin and it disappears within time. Thereby giving me beautiful and luminous skin. Thus, it reminds me of my skin’s natural oils. I love the dewy effect it has on my skin.

So, I had to include it in my firm mustache wax recipe to pass on its benefits to my male friends.

My super simple firm mustache wax recipe

Now coming to the most important part, where I get to create the magic potion.

I keep my recipe super simple. So, here it is in 5 simple steps.

  1. Take all the ingredients, except jojoba oil in equal proportions by weight.
  2. Melt the waxes in an oil/ wax heater or a Marie Baine. This should not take more than 5 minutes.
  3. Once the oils have melted. Take the mixture off the heat.
  4. Then add double the amount of jojoba oil, as compared to the individual amount of other oils.
  5. Pour the resultant emulsion into a jar with a wide mouth. Your super-simple firm mustache wax recipe is complete.

Important Pointers

  1. You can use a few drops of essential oils to the mustache wax recipe. Cedarwood and bergamot are good options. Though feel free to experiment with whatever you like.
  2. Since the ratio is 1:1:1:2 for each individual waxes: jojoba oil. I, therefore, use 10g of each oil and 20g of jojoba. This makes a nice 50g of the final product.
  3. In case you end up making homemade mustache wax without beeswax. Then, add double of carnauba wax to make up for the lost proportion. So, that way your wax: oil ratio will not dwindle.

In Conclusion

I understand from a guy’s perspective of how important is to have control of their facial hair.

Flyaway and unruly hair is a big disappointment.

Beard hair do understand taming with frequent hand strokes. But that method does not work with the mustache hair.

Since mustache hair hangs free without resting support. They are bound to scatter all over.

It is unfortunate that an emollient beard balm does not hold the mustache stable. Hence, a mustache wax with a firm hold is pertinent to the scenario.

I turned skeptical reading the labels of commercial mustache hold products. That is why I researched into making one minus the paraffin and pine tar.

How glad I got to know that there are edible resins and waxes that can work for this purpose.

These waxes have a stronghold. Plus, they do not cause harm since they come from natural sources.

I do have some amount of mustache hair. But they are not enough to test this product. Though I did gauge the product’s strength with its consistency.

But of course, the moment of truth is in its actual usage.

So, if you get to try my firm mustache wax recipe. Then, please do me a favor by letting me know the feedback. That will help me to come up with its version 2.
